Going for Growth

The Future of the EU-Japan Partnership
9 March 2012

Europe and Japan account for nearly half of global GDP and a quarter of all world trade.  The opportunities for much-needed growth, particularly in emerging markets, presented by economic cooperation between these two economic powerhouses are considerable.  This conference will examine opportunities for and obstacles to closer trade and investment cooperation, and explore which sectors offer the greatest chances of success:

  • Closer cooperation as a driver of growth, particularly in relation to emerging markets
  • What are the prospects for key areas of current and future EU-Japan cooperation – trade liberalization, investment, technology cooperation?
  • Potential avenues for progress on economic integration between Japan and the EU in sectors such as finance, the auto industry, aerospace, insurance, agriculture and education
