China Fellowship

Chatham House is pleased to invite applicants for the China Senior Fellowship in the Academy for Leadership in International Affairs at Chatham House. The Fellowship is intended to provide an established expert or practitioner who is a Chinese citizen with the opportunity to write, speak at events, expand his or her personal networks and further develop an understanding of critical issues in international affairs, as a Senior Fellow of the Academy.

The Fellow will have the opportunity to conduct research from Chatham House, including consultations with experts within the institute’s extensive network.

The Fellow will also take part in the Academy's Leadership Programme. This will comprise approximately one training session or seminar each week, ranging from skills-based training to knowledge-based seminars.

This Fellowship is part of Chatham House's new Academy for Leadership in International Affairs.

Research topics

The Fellow will spend six months at Chatham House and will be hosted by and based in one of Chatham House's research departments, either International Security or Energy, Environment and Resources. During this time, the Fellow will conduct a research project of their own design on one of the research topics as specified below:

Research topics with the International Security Department:

1. Possibilities for Europe-China cooperation on outer space norms and codes of conduct

2. Cyber security of outer space systems

3. Cyber security of communications that transit through outer space systems

Research topics with the Energy, Environment and Resources (EER) Department:

4. EU-China interdependencies and cooperation on energy, resource and climate security

5. Achieving resource security and sustainability in China

6. Developing innovative south-south cooperation and new partnerships for sustainable development

Application process

Candidates are invited to apply for the China Senior Fellowship for 2014. The Fellowship will start in March 2014.

To be eligible for the China Senior Fellowship candidates must hold Chinese citizenship. Full eligibility criteria can be found in the information pack below. The application window for the 2013/14 Fellowships has now closed.
