Chatham House, London

Professor Kevin Featherstone, Professor of Contemporary Greek Studies and European Politics; Director, Hellenic Observatory, LSE

Dr Holger Schmieding, Chief Economist, Berenberg Bank

Vicky Pryce, Chief Economic Adviser, Centre for Economics and Business Research

In light of the recent election of radical left party Syriza, the panel will examine the domestic political upheaval that has resulted in the election of Greece’s new anti-austerity government. The speakers will assess the economic ramifications of Syriza’s proposed policies and consider how debt negotiations with the EU could unfold. The panellists will also discuss the implications of a rejection of austerity on the stability of the eurozone and the possibility of Greece leaving the single currency.
