Iran and the Six: Nuclear Negotiations in 2013

Monday 4 February 2013 14:30 to 16:30 GMT

Chatham House, London

Dr Seyed Hossein Mousavian, Senior Nuclear Negotiator for Iran (2003–5)
Chair: Sir Richard Dalton, Associate Fellow, Middle East and North Africa Programme, Chatham House

Type: Fee-paying or special invitation events

Negotiations between Iran and the six nations leading diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis are due to resume shortly. The escalation towards conflict has lessened in recent months, but a lack of progress could damage this fragile peace. After a failed series of meetings in Moscow last year the stakes are high and uncertainties are extensive. The impact of sanctions on the Iranian people has built up during the interval to the talks, adding further to the pressure. On both sides, a lack of trust in the other could prove an insurmountable obstacle to progress.

Discussion will focus on the different strategies of the key players and explore possible options to resolve the current deadlock.

Attendance is by invitation only. This event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
