The archives comprise a range of documents, including meeting transcripts from 1920 onwards, photographs of Chatham House, selected correspondence, and study group and publications records.
Access to the archives is available to Chatham House members and those with a study need, by arrangement with the library.
The archive catalogues are available in hard copy in the library. The catalogues for two sections of the archives are available on the National Archives website:
Once you’ve found the details of the items you require on the catalogues, please email the Library Team with a list of what you require, and some brief information about why you need to access the material. 24 hours notice is required to retrieve papers from the archive.
Chatham House members can access archive documents electronically, using A Library Without Walls, which contains transcripts of speeches given at Chatham House from 1920 to 1965. Current members of Chatham House can register to access the speech and meetings' archive. If you would like to access this, and you are not a member, you can take out a web membership of Chatham House to gain access to this, and many other e-library resources.
