Find out what's happening at Chatham House

Journalists can sign up to receive the Chatham House media diary and press notice email bulletins. The main bulletin is sent out every second Monday with updates in between. The emails contain news of our speakers and publications with information on how journalists can register for our events.

The majority of major UK broadcasters and print media, and a number of international media, including freelance journalists and foreign correspondents are members of Chatham House. To join Chatham House, please contact our membership department.

Attending and reporting events at Chatham House

Events listed in the email media diary are open to journalists, space permitting, and the majority will be on the record. Journalists who are not members of Chatham House will usually be allowed to attend these events but must register in advance and bring press identification. Identification must be in the form of an official UK press ID card with photograph or an international equivalent.

When reporting Chatham House events journalists are asked to acknowledge the speaker's details and that the event was held at Chatham House. Most events are NOT held under the Chatham House Rule.
What does the Chatham House Rule mean for journalists?

Filming, recording and photography

Filming and recording of most events is permitted although arrangements are subject to last minute changes from time to time. Finding space for satellite trucks on St James's Square is not normally a problem but broadcasters are responsible for making their own arrangements. Photography is permitted at most events but may be limited to the first five minutes of the speech and the first five minutes of the question and answer session, where this format is used.

Interviews and facilities

The press office also facilitates interviews for Chatham House experts and guest speakers. Our premises have a number of rooms and locations suitable for most types of interview - and we're located in St James's Square, one of London's finest locations. Chatham House in some circumstances may be used by broadcasters as a location venue for drama or other purposes. Recently it has been used by the BBC's Panorama and Hardtalk, CBS's 60 Minutes, the BBC dramas Field of Dreams and Churchill at War and Channel 4's Bremner, Bird and Fortune. Room hire information.
