In the wake of the Gaza conflict, President Barack Obama cannot avoid setting out terms of engagement with the Middle East. The most obvious priority is to provide a template for renewed peace efforts between Israelis and Palestinians, backed by the reconstruction ofGaza's damaged infrastructure. As urgent as this is, the Obama team would be mistaken to divorce short-term goals from a deeper reassessment of the dynamics of theMuslim world.
