Chatham House: Independent thinking on international affairs

Europe China Research and Advice Network (ECRAN)

The project is designed to further enhance the capacity of European policy-makers to monitor and assess current developments in China

Chatham House - as a member of a consortium led by Steinbeis GmbH & Co. KG für Technologietransfer involving Nottingham University and Galway Development Services International - have been awarded the Europe China Research and Advice Network (ECRAN) project.

The project, funded by the European Union with a budget of EUR 2.5 Million for three years, is designed to enhance European policy-makers' understanding of developments in China on the political, economic and social levels and their impact on the EU and on EU-China relations.

Dr Kerry Brown, Head of the Asia Programme at Chatham House is the team leader for ECRAN. He works alongside Chatham House Associate Fellow, Professor Shaun Breslin, and Professor Shujie Yao and Professor Lina Song, both of whom are based at Nottingham University. The project will involve a number of short term experts from European Research institutions in various areas of study as the project develops.

The project team will establish ECRAN as a network of European researchers and research institutes specialised on China and EU-China relations. The project will mobilise experts to carry out targeted studies and release related publications; organise conferences and workshops; prepare policy briefings for a broad range of EU officials and stakeholders; and establish and maintain a website to provide access to its analysis and promote the output of the network.
