Trilateral Cooperation on Low Carbon Zones in Africa

This project will assess the potential for developing Low Carbon Zones in Africa: areas with policy and institutional frameworks designed to enable climate compatible development.

Research will focus in the first instance on Ethiopia and Egypt to identify opportunities for developing LCZs relevant to each country’s wider industrial and agricultural development strategies.

Having identified suitable opportunities and achieved buy-in from national stakeholders, the project will develop roadmaps in consultation with national stakeholders and partners from the EU and China, and develop recommendations for how the process can be replicated in other countries.

In so doing, the research aims to foster trilateral cooperation between Africa, China and Europe on climate compatible development.
