Building Civil Society Resilience in Eastern Europe

This project focuses on Russia’s role in obstructing democratic developments in Eastern Europe.

The project, led by Orysia Lutsevych and Mathieu Boulègue, looks at the ways in which Russia-driven actions are challenging cohesion, governance, human rights and democracy domestically and internationally.

It analyses the factors and channels of influence enabling the spread of Russian disinformation and the fortification of authoritarianism, and the ways in which Russia’s activities compound local obstacles to civil society development.

The project will develop actionable recommendations for local civil society organizations and international actors to protect, strengthen, and expand civil society in the region.

This project is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy.
