This project, led by Keir Giles, examines Russian approaches to international relations with both ‘great powers’ and smaller neighbours, rooted in the Russian state’s attitude to its own citizens.
The research focuses on how this approach guides current Russian policy towards the United States and the West, and how best to respond to this policy to achieve a stable and less crisis-prone relationship with Russia.
