Biography

Chengkai Xie is an academy associate at the Environment and Society Centre. His research at Chatham House examines the geopolitical implications of energy transition, with a focus on low-carbon technologies. His interest in net-zero-related public policy and international trade issues stems from his comparative research on the UK and China’s clean energy policy, especially in the area of coal phase-out, during his time as a Schwarzman Scholar at Tsinghua University. With experience in the UK Parliament, the British Chamber of Commerce in Beijing, and UK National Committee on China, Chengkai has a professional interest in UK–China bilateral relations.

He received a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Brasenose College, Oxford, and an MSc in Global Affairs from Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University, Beijing, as a Schwarzman Scholar
