From 2014 to 2016, Hayato worked as a diplomat in the North East Asia Division of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he conducted in-depth research about the security issues in the Korean Peninsula and led one of the economic sanctions projects against North Korea.
He also liaised with the President of the Asian Development Bank during the 2016 G7 Summit.
His research surveys the current state of Japan’s cyber security and how it could be developed, with comparison to the UK and also in the context of the security situation in East Asia.
He received his Master of Public Policy from the University of Oxford and BA from the University of Tokyo.
