The Chatham House library holds a specialist collection of books, periodicals and electronic resources covering international relations, and international aspects of economics, security and resource governance. The collection focuses on contemporary issues as well as holding core publications dating back to the 1920s.

Library Regulations

Admissions Policy

Individual Members (Full, Family, Under 35 and Student Members)

Use of the Library, borrowing rights, and access to the eLibrary are included in Chatham House membership.

Web Members

Web members have access to the Library’s electronic resources, and are entitled to two visits to the Library per year.

Corporate Nominees

Use of the Library, borrowing rights, and access to the eLibrary are included as part of corporate membership.

Corporate Open Tickets / NGO Passes

Use of the Library for reference only.

Non-members

Non-members must demonstrate a research need to access material held in the Chatham House library. Please contact the Library Team in advance to arrange access.

Borrowing

You may borrow up to ten books at one time for up to four weeks. The following material is for use within the Library only:

  • Reference items
  • Journals
  • Newspapers

Books should be returned or renewed promptly. Items may be renewed if not requested by another user. If materials are not returned, you will be invoiced for replacement plus an administrative fee and until the matter is settled, your Library account and access to library resources will be suspended. Failure to return the item(s) or pay the invoice could lead to membership sanctions.

Library Etiquette

Respect the quiet area and do not disturb other Library users. Mobile devices must be set to silent and calls must be taken outside of the Library. Tea and coffee are provided free of charge for members. Food is not allowed in the Library.
