This project examined the role of the European External Action Service and the post-Lisbon foreign policy environment.

It considered the following questions:

  • What value can the EEAS can bring to the objective of strengthening the EU's role in the world, and in particular in Europe's neighbourhood and through the strategic partnerships?
  • What is the optimal organisational structure of a 21 century diplomatic service?
  • What should the priorities be for the EEAS in its first two years?

This project was led by Professor Richard Whitman, and is in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.
