Hannes Adomeit

Summary

Dr Hannes Adomeit was Professor at the College of Europe in Warsaw until 2014, teaching courses on the EU and Russia. Prior to that, he was Research Associate at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin dealing with Russian foreign and military affairs.
His current position is that of non-resident Fellow at the Institute for International Security Policy at the University of Kiel (ISPK) His academic degrees include, in Germany, an MA in Political Science from the Freie Universität in Berlin. In the US, he received an MA degree in International Relations, a Certificate in Russian Studies, and a PhD from Columbia University in New York.

He has held teaching and research positions at different institutions in several countries, including the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London; the Royal Military College of Canada; and the Rand Corporation in Santa Monica, California. In 1989-1997 he was Professor of International Politics and Director of the Program on Russia and East-Central Europe at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, in Medford (Boston), and Fellow at the Harvard Russian Research Center. Last year, he was appointed Bosh Public Policy Fellow at the Transatlantic Academy in Washington, DC, producing a study on German-Russian relations under Merkel and Putin. He has published many articles in academic journals and several books. His latest book, which appeared last year, is the 2nd edition of his widely acclaimed Imperial Overstretch:  Germany in Soviet Policy from Stalin to Gorbachev, based on New Archival Evidence, Memoirs, and Interviews.
