Lieutenant General Jörg Vollmer took office as Chief of the German Army in 2015, after he was assigned as Commander of the German Field Army and Vice Chief of the German Army. A Mechanized Infantry Officer by profession, he commanded several units, including a Paratrooper Battalion, the Mechanized Infantry Brigade 37 and the Rapid Response Force Division. He twice commanded the Regional Command North in International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Operations. In addition, he was assigned to several staff positions in various Commands. He holds a Diploma in Economic Science from the Army University in Hamburg and a Master’s degree from the School for Advanced Military Studies in Leavenworth, USA.
