Thomas O'Donnell


Dr Thomas W O'Donnell is an academic and analyst of the global energy system – especially the oil and gas and renewables sectors - and its role in development and international affairs. He covers regions including the EU and USA, OPEC's Latin American and Mideast states, Russia and China.

He currently teaches at Hertie School of Governance in Berlin and Freie Univsität-Berlin's European Studies Program. He previously taught at The University of Michigan, Ohio State University, The New School Graduate Program in International Affairs , and Freie Universität’s JFK Institute. He blogs at and often writes for the Berlin Policy Journal (DGAP, Berlin), Americas Quarterly (AS/COA, NYC), Petroguía (Caracas) and the AICGS (Washington).

Throughout 2008-09 he was a US Fulbright Scholar and Visiting Professor in Caracas at The Center for the Study of Development at the Central Universty of Venezuela (CENDES/UCV). He is a Senior Analyst at Wikistrat, and consults on energy, geopolitical and business-intelligence matters. His obtained his PhD in nuclear physics from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
