Summary

Heinrich Brauss was appointed Assistant Secretary General (ASG) for Defence Policy and Planning in 2013, having joined NATO in 2007 as Deputy ASG for Policy and Planning.  As ASG he leads the defence-related aspects of NATO’s fundamental security tasks at the political and military level, and is responsible for the development and implementation of the defence policy and planning dimension of Alliance activities. He holds the rank of Lieutenant General in the German Armed Forces and has previously served in the EU and at the German Ministry of Defence.
