Summary

Peter Altmaier MP is Head of the German Federal Chancellery and was previously Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety; Chief Whip of the Christian Democrat Union/Christian Social Union parliamentary group; and parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior (2005–09). He was CDU/CSU delegate to the European conventions on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the Constitutional Treaty (1999–2003). He joined the European Commission in 1990, and served as Secretary-General for the Administrative Commission on Social Security for Migrant Workers (1993–94).
