The 2022 World Cup: Why Qatar?
Hassan Al-Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Qatar 2022
Chair: David Conn, Sports Writer, The Guardian
Six years from now, the FIFA World Cup will, for the first time, take place in the Middle East. Hassan Al-Thawadi will outline what Qatar hopes to achieve in hosting the competition and detail the Gulf state's aims for building a lasting legacy beyond 2022.
He will also address some of the criticisms the country has faced surrounding both the award and subsequent preparations. Al-Thawadi will argue that the world should embrace the idea that the Middle East deserves to host an event of such magnitude and that the tournament has the potential to serve as a turning point for the region.
