Overview

As Russia struggles through economic crisis, it faces a new combination of challenges and opportunities. In this Annual Russia Lecture, Mikhail Dmitriev will examine Russia's past tipping points and those yet to come. He will argue that the intensity of the crisis has pushed the state to consider far-reaching economic reforms but, since the turbulence of 2011, Russian society has all but lost an appetite for social and political change. He will also contend that economic pain will take a toll on the population as the country heads towards the presidential elections of 2018 and that this promises new twists in Russia’s intricate social and political dynamics.

This event will be followed by a reception.
