Overview

Both the EU-US sanctions introduced in 2014 and the breakdown of military and technical cooperation with Ukraine has impacted Russia’s defence industry’s ability to fulfil state defence orders and propel the development of the armed forces. In response, Moscow has introduced import substitution programmes and started purchasing components from other foreign suppliers.

Our speakers will analyse the main challenges faced by the Russian defence sector. How is the government adjusting to a limited production capacity? How do the coping strategies employed by Russia thus far fit into the country’s broader economic policy? And what are the implications for the Russian armed forces?

To enable as open a debate as possible, this event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.

This event is only open to Major Corporate Member and Partner organizations of Chatham House. If you would like to register your interest, please RSVP to Linda Bedford. We will contact you to confirm your attendance.
