Building Growth in Europe - Innovative Financing for Infrastructure
More and better investment in infrastructure is a way to unlock the potential for long-term growth and job creation in Europe. Existing infrastructure needs maintenance and there is a shortfall in investment with an estimated extra €2 trillion needed up to 2020.
This panel discussion will contribute to the debate on the need to foster long-term investment in Europe as a way to recover sustained and stable economic growth.
This event will launch the Chatham House Report Building Growth in Europe: Innovative Financing for Infrastructure by Paola Subacchi, Stephen Pickford, Davide Tentori and Helena Huang. The report focuses on infrastructure investment in the EU and offers policy recommendations for matching the demand for investment with the available financial resources. In particular, it recommends developing a Pan-European Infrastructure Strategy, improving the allocation of structural and cohesion funds, and promoting the use of project bonds to fill financing gaps, among other policy recommendations.
The report will also be presented in Rome on 2 October.
This meeting forms part of the project Innovative Financing For European Infrastructures.
The event will be followed by a drinks reception.
