China’s Global Governance and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank
Lee Jones, Associate Professor in International Politics, School of Politics and International Relations, Queen Mary, University of London
Many observers of international politics detect a growing Chinese challenge to the rules-based, liberal international order. In particular, some saw Beijing’s recent creation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as a threat to existing organizations governing international development financing.
Referencing AIIB’s role in Chinese global governance, Lee Jones will map the trajectory of Chinese international development finance. How does the ongoing transformation of the Chinese party-state impact China’s development priorities? And how does the contested fragmentation, decentralization and internationalization of state apparatuses complicate Chinese development finance and economic governance?
