CANCELLED: China’s Global Governance and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

26 February 2018 - 10:30am to 11:00am

Lee Jones, Associate Professor in International Politics, School of Politics and International Relations, Queen Mary, University of London

It is with regret that due to unforeseen circumstances the following event has been cancelled. If we are able to reschedule the event, we will of course let you know.

Many observers of international politics detect a growing Chinese challenge to the rules-based, liberal international order. In particular, some saw Beijing’s recent creation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as a threat to existing organizations governing international development financing.

Referencing AIIB’s role in Chinese global governance, Lee Jones will map the trajectory of Chinese international development finance. How does the ongoing transformation of the Chinese party-state impact China’s development priorities? And how does the contested fragmentation, decentralization and internationalization of state apparatuses complicate Chinese development finance and economic governance?

Please note, this event is online only. Members will be able to watch the webinar from a computer or other internet-ready device and do not need to come to Chatham House to attend.
