Combating Ebola in Liberia: The Role of The International Community

10 November 2014 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm

Chatham House, London

Karin Landgren, United Nations Secretary-General's Special Representative for Liberia
Chair: George Graham, Head of Conflict and Humanitarian Advocacy and Policy, Save the Children

Since the start of the West African Ebola outbreak in March 2014, the disease has claimed over 2,400 lives in Liberia alone, representing around half of the total casualties across the four countries with reported cases. The inability to effectively control the outbreak has in part been due to systemic weaknesses and capacity limitations.

The speaker will discuss Liberia’s response to the crisis and areas where the international community can most effectively target its support to assist the state in reducing the spread of the disease and preparing for the coming socio-economic impacts.
