Defeating ISIS in Iraq: Internal and External Dynamics

The speaker will reflect on the unfolding situation in Iraq since the fall of Ramadi to Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in May, considering the prospects of defeating ISIS and rebuilding the Iraqi state. He will explore how Sunni-Shia relations in the country have evolved over recent years and the impact of cooperation between the two groups on the campaign against ISIS. He will also assess whether dynamics between the US and Iran in Iraq are changing and the impact that this could have on Iraq’s future.
