Defining Development for Rivers State and Steps to Sustainable Implementation

6 November 2017 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Chatham House, London

HE Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Executive Governor of Rivers State, Federal Republic of Nigeria
Chair: Sir Richard Gozney KCMG CVO, Lieutenant Governor, Isle of Man; British High Commissioner to Nigeria (2004-07)

At the heart of the oil-rich Niger Delta, Rivers State is the capital of Nigeria’s petroleum industry and plays host to numerous multinational corporations. It is also the second richest state in the country. But the state suffers severe governance, development, and environmental challenges despite its significantly higher state revenue relative to the country’s other state governments, and its young workforce and significant potential for economic diversification and growth.

At this event, HE Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, executive governor of Rivers State, will set out his priorities for the development of the state and steps towards implementing his vision.
