Drug Policy Reform: Learning from the Swiss model

6 November 2014 - 14:30 to 16:00

Chatham House, London

Diane Steber Büchli, Senior Advisor, International Drug Policy, Federal Department of Home Affairs FDHA, Switzerland
Professor Jonathan Strang, Head of Addictions Department, King’s College London (TBC)
Chair: Dr Patricia Lewis, Research Director, International Security Department, Chatham House

This expert roundtable will consider the case of Switzerland, one of only a few countries that have employed a harm reduction approach to their drug policy, including championing supervised injection facilities and heroin-assisted treatments. The roundtable will create an opportunity for focussed discussion on how some of the best elements of the Swiss experience might translate to the UK context, and to consider lessons to be learned ahead of the UN General Assembly Special Session on drugs scheduled for 2016.

This event is held in association with the Embassy of Switzerland in the UK and Presence Switzerland.
