The Era of Techplomacy
The influence of companies such as Google, IBM, Apple and Microsoft is now so great that their economic strength and impact exceeds that of many nation states. While some countries have attempted to check the power of technology giants by regulation or prosecution, Denmark have appointed an ambassador to engage in traditional diplomatic work with such companies and other key tech stakeholders.
The world's first ever tech ambassador will provide an overview of Europe's relationship with the technology sector. How can governments support and create the best conditions for the digital era and which organizations are most powerful in the ‘techplomacy’ space? Have tech companies been receptive to the idea of a tech ambassador and how will Ambassador Klynge reconcile his country's national interests, in addition to large tech companies’ international focus, to chart a mutually beneficial working relationship?
This event is open to Major Corporate and Partner Organizations of Chatham House. If you would like to register your interest, please RSVP to Linda Bedford. We will contact you to confirm your attendance.
To enable as open a debate as possible, the event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
