The EU through the Lens of Russian Television: Lessons from Ukraine

10 April 2018 - 3:00pm to 4:30pm

Chatham House, London

Nataliia Popovych, Co-Founder, Ukraine Crisis Media Center
Oleksiy Makhuhin, Head, Hybrid Warfare Analytical Group, Ukraine Crisis Media Center

Russia has extensively weaponized information in recent years. The Kremlin deploys various methods, both abroad and domestically, to create an image of the West as its enemy. A team of Ukrainian researchers has analysed key narratives and tools deployed by Russian television to project a certain image of the EU. What are the top narratives? Which countries are targeted most? And what can the EU and the UK learn from Ukrainian state and non-state efforts to counter disinformation?

The speakers will present key findings from a recent study, The Image of the EU and Eastern Partnership Countries on Russian Television, followed by an hour for discussion.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
