HE Noël Nelson Messone, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Gabon

Overview

Gabon’s efforts in mediating conflicts in neighbouring countries have made it a stabilizing influence in sub-Saharan Africa, including in the Central African Republic, where 450 Gabonese troops are deployed under the MINUSCA mandate and the head of the mission and UN Special Representative is a Gabonese national. The country has also recently augmented its navy as it continues to seek to tackle maritime threats in the Gulf of Guinea. It is also ambitious for deeper regional integration, as it also seeks to diversify its international partnerships.

At this event, Gabon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Noël Nelson Messone, discusses his vision for ensuring the stability of Gabon and its neighbours, and considers options for strengthening links with both traditional and more recent partners.
