The Global Crisis of Internal Displacement
Tragically, 2015 was another record year for internal displacement related to conflict, violence and disasters, affecting 127 countries worldwide. The Middle East and North Africa bore the brunt with Syria, Yemen and Iraq accounting for over half of new conflict displacements worldwide.
To address this complex issue, the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre’s (IDMC) 2016 Global Report on Internal Displacement examines figures for displacement caused by conflict and violence as well as figures for displacement caused by disasters, with the intention of providing a comprehensive picture of displacement. The panel will present the report and discuss the findings, using Syria as a case study.
IDMC is part of the Norwegian Refugee Council, an independent, non-governmental humanitarian organization.
