The Importance of Furthering UK-Asia Relations

21 March 2017 - 8:00am to 9:15am

Chatham House, London

Alok Sharma MP, United Kingdom Minister for Asia and the Pacific

Chair: Dr Robin Niblett CMG, Director, Chatham House

The UK minister for Asia and the Pacific will discuss what he sees as the key economic and political priorities that will influence the UK’s future engagement in Asia.

Does the UK see the decision to leave the European Union as an opportunity to develop closer links with major Asian economies such as China and India? Could so doing have a negative impact on Brexit negotiations with the EU? And do the economic priorities of developing commercial relations with Asian countries carry political implications for the UK’s position on key regional flashpoints such as the South China Sea, Taiwan or the nuclear programme in Pyongyang?

To enable as open a debate as possible, this event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.

This event is only open to Major Corporate Member and Partner organizations of Chatham House. If you would like to register your interest, please RSVP to Linda Bedford. We will contact you to confirm your attendance.
