The speaker will argue that, contrary to fears of growing communal tensions following the election of Narendra Modi earlier this year, India’s new prime minister has focused on improving ties with neighbouring countries. Although his views on minority rights remain unclear, Mr Modi has proven a pragmatic politician, appearing to distance himself from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) philosophy for the sake of ensuring a secure and peaceful neighbourhood.
