Inside Obama’s White House: Don't Screw It Up
Following on from the success of our first Screening Room, Chatham House will host a screening of the third episode of the BBC Two series Inside Obama’s White House.
Episode three focuses on how Barack Obama set out to end George Bush's wars in the Middle East and reset relations with the rest of the world. This episode looks at how, after the Cairo speech, he dealt with the Arab spring in Egypt and Libya. And for the first time Obama reveals why, in 2013, he changed his mind at the last minute and decided not to intervene against President Assad of Syria. It also explores how Obama scored a big win when he negotiated a secret deal to end the nuclear threat from Iran - behind the backs of his closest allies.
The film will be followed by a Q&A session with series producer Norma Percy, executive producer Paul Mitchell and episode three director and producer Delphine Jaudeau. The event will be followed by a drinks reception where members will have the opportunity to continue the discussion with the filmmakers.
