Iran: Life After Sanctions
As sanctions on Iran begin to be lifted, questions surround the future direction of Iran’s domestic and foreign policy in a new post-deal context. The outcome of critical parliamentary elections on 26 February will determine whether President Hassan Rouhani can move forward with his reform agenda which could bring about changes to laws governing the economy, the press and civil liberties. At the same time, Iran’s diplomatic relations in the region remain turbulent and the recent diplomatic crisis with Saudi Arabia has deepened existing tensions.
Sanam Vakil will assess the key challenges now facing Iran and consider how its economic, domestic and foreign policy could develop over the coming year.
