Kenya’s Democratic Development and Regional Position: Navigating the Path to Elections and Beyond

Chatham House, London

Participants

Ambassador Monica Juma DPhil CBS, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Kenya
Chair: Dr Alex Vines OBE, Head, Africa Programme; Research Director, Area Studies and International Law, Chatham House

Overview

The East African Community’s Economic Partnership Agreement with the EU has stalled, and Kenya has seen trade with Tanzania and Uganda slowing. The next Kenyan government will need to act decisively to re-energise the region’s economic integration agenda, as well as working to facilitate stability in neighbouring South Sudan and Somalia.

Ambassador Juma will set out the Jubilee Party’s foreign and trade policy priorities for a second term in office, and examine how the next government can create the right conditions for stability and sustainable growth in East Africa.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
