Overview

Low oil prices and a volatile global economy are putting pressure on government finances and living costs in Angola. The announcement by the president that he will step down following the 2017 election raises questions of succession. This combination has generated uncertainty but also presents opposition parties with opportunities to demonstrate their leadership capacity by pushing for economic reforms and mobilizing young middle class voters with an appetite for change.

At this meeting Abel Chivukuvuku, president of Convergência Ampla de Salvação de Angola - Coligação Eleitoral (CASA-CE), will offer an opposition perspective on the current crisis and discuss CASA-CE’s priorities in pursuing economic reform.
