Report Launch: Energy for Refugees - Saving Lives, Reducing Costs

Conference Room 8, United Nations Headquarters, 405 E 42nd St, New York, NY, United States

Energy, Environment and Resources Department, Moving Energy Initiative

Overview

The Moving Energy Initiative is launching its flagship report - Saving Lives, Reducing Costs: Heat Light and Power for Refugees. Hosted by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations, and partners, this high-level panel discussion will outline the findings of the report and the importance of energy provision for refugees and displaced people.

The report presents for the first time estimates of the volume and costs of energy used in situations of forced displacement worldwide. The evidence strongly suggests the need for an overhaul in the way that energy is managed within the humanitarian sector and shows how new approaches could benefit refugees and displaced people, host country communities and the environment. This event will offer the opportunity to discuss the report’s findings and recommendations with stakeholders, focusing on practical scope for introducing cleaner forms of energy in a sustainable way.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
