This spring the National League for Democracy (NLD) takes power in Myanmar following its landslide election victory in November. While the scene seems set for a peaceful transition to full democracy, Myanmar’s constitution gives the army the right to reassume power whenever it deems necessary. What lies ahead for Myanmar?
With Aung San Suu Kyi barred from holding the presidency, the panel will discuss how the NLD will cope with the challenges to come and what her involvement might look like. In addition, they will consider the country as a growing point of tension and competition between its two larger neighbours, China and India, and the US.
