New Challenges Facing the European Economy

11 May 2017 - 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Chatham House, London

Carlos Martinez Mongay, Director, Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs, European Commission
Chair: Stephen Pickford, Associate Fellow, International Economics Department, Chatham House

Following a long period of below-average growth, economic activity in Europe is finally beginning to show encouraging signs of a sustained recovery, albeit with ongoing heterogeneity across EU member states. At the same time, the global economy is facing new challenges that could impact on the recovery in Europe. In this context, Carlos Martinez Mongay will present the European Commission's latest macroeconomic forecast, highlighting the views of the European Commission on the risks that these challenges pose to the European economy.

The presentation will take place shortly after the release of the forecast, which serves as a basis for a number of the European Commission's economic surveillance procedures.

This briefing will be a part of Chatham House’s International Financial Institution (IFI) Briefing series where institutions will share their thinking with leaders in business, government and academia.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
