New Developments in Turkish Domestic and Foreign Policy

Chatham House, London

HE Mr Numan Kurtulmuş, Deputy Prime Minister, Republic of Turkey

Chair: James Landale, Diplomatic Correspondent, BBC News

The Turkish deputy prime minister will argue that all countries are facing similar, significant challenges since the current world order is not powerful nor convincing enough to prevent conflicts and unrest.

In the wake of the attempted coup in July and continued conflict in neighbouring countries, he will contend that Turkey is facing new developments in domestic and foreign policy in line with the recent challenges faced by the country. However, in so doing, he will assert that Turkey will not compromise on its fundamental principles such as a commitment to peace, rule of law, protection of civil liberties and democracy.
