Varvara Pakhomenko, Europe & Central Asia Analyst, International Crisis Group

Overview

The North Caucasus has witnessed a drop in violence over the past three years, but there are concerns about the threat that links between local insurgent networks and the civil war in Syria could pose to Russia’s security further down the line.

Varvara Pakhomenko will discuss the current status of the insurgency in the North Caucasus as well as Moscow’s management of the situation. She will offer introductory remarks for approximately 15 minutes, followed by an hour for questions and discussion.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
