Pakistan: War and State-building in Comparative Perspective

Chatham House, London

TV Paul, James McGill Professor of International Relations, Department of Political Science, McGill University, Montreal
Chair: Gareth Price, Senior Research Fellow, Asia Programme, Chatham House

The speaker will discuss the reasons underlying Pakistan’s comparative inability to progress, in both economic and security terms. Specifically, he will argue that Pakistan suffers from a 'geostrategic curse' — akin to the 'resource curse' that plagues oil-rich autocracies.
