Chatham House, London

Participants

Salim al-Jabouri, Speaker of Parliament, Republic of Iraq
Chair: Lina Khatib, Head, Middle East and North Africa Programme, Chatham House

Overview

With elections in Iraq scheduled for May 2018, the speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Dr Salim al-Jabouri will explore key political coalitions and contestations, as well as discussing his campaign. He will focus on the implications of the vote in areas recently liberated from ISIS control and the challenges with political representation between the provinces and the central government. The discussion will also cover the difficulties with ensuring that the vote reaches the entire electoral population, particularly those who have been displaced from their homes. Moving beyond the elections, Dr al-Jabouri will provide an update on progress with rebuilding towns and cities in Iraq after ISIS.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
