Prospects for Saudi-Iranian Rapprochement

11 February 2015 - 8:00am to 9:15am

Chatham House, London

Jane Kinninmont, Deputy Head and Senior Research Fellow, Middle East and North Africa Programme, Chatham House

Chair: Ian Black, Middle East Editor, The Guardian

The speaker will consider the extent to which the Saudi-Iranian 'cold war' is exacerbating other conflicts in the Middle East, and fuelling Sunni-Shia sectarianism. She will assess whether the Iranian nuclear negotiations and the common interest in fighting Islamic State could be a basis for a rapprochement between the two powers, and the implications this would have for international security, energy and Middle Eastern politics.

Attendance is strictly by invitation only. To enable as open a debate as possible, this event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.

This event is only open to Major Corporate Member and Partner organizations of Chatham House. To register for this event, please RSVP to Linda Bedford.
