Overview

The speaker will argue that the European Union’s position on the territorial disputes in the East and South China Seas revolves around respect for international law, freedom of navigation and avoidance of the use of force. In light of the EU’s ongoing weapons exports to the region, he will discuss the question of whether Europe could play a more active role, either through balancing military strengths within the region or by reducing military exports.
