POSTPONED: The Role of New Political Parties in Mozambique
Please note this event is still going ahead but the date is yet to be set.
The rise of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) has broken the two-party dominance of Mozambique's politics. Drawing on support from urban youth, the party won the 2013 municipal election in the country’s second city of Beira. But this success is yet to translate into broad national support and government contention.
Daviz Simango, the mayor of Beira and president and founder of MDM, will reflect on the party’s success in Beira, and discuss priorities for the party and strategies to widen its national support base.
