The Russian Presidential Election

15 March 2018 - 12:30pm to 1:00pm

Mathieu Boulègue, Research Fellow, Russia and Eurasia Programme, Chatham House
Roman Osharov, Academy Robert Bosch Fellow, Russia and Eurasia Programme, Chatham House

The results of the Russian presidential election on 18 March are not in any real doubt. Assuming there are no surprises, the election is likely to keep Vladimir Putin in office for the next six years. What are Putin’s goals and ambitions for the presidential term ahead?

This webinar will explore key issues surrounding the election and explain the Kremlin’s priorities for Putin’s latest – but potentially final – presidential term. Re-election would mark Putin’s fourth term in office, extending his time in power to a quarter of a century by 2024. Are there signs that he is laying the groundwork for a future transition of power?

Please note, this event is online only. Members can watch webinars from a computer or other internet-ready device and do not need to come to Chatham House to attend.
